Agreed all around. Plus, Markiplier still needed the help of old-fashioned theater booking agents to get the ball rolling on Iron Lung finally getting screened after sitting on the shelf for 2 years. And even after it succeeded theatrically, he still had to fight to distribute the film on YouTube. To me, it all adds up to YouTubers still being ahead of the curve in nearly every way (crafting compelling stories, building audiences, motivating them to take action), yet the industrial gatekeepers are adapting so slowly that the innovators are somehow still being held back from unleashing their true potential... yet.
